Teeing Off on Cancer Golf Classic Raises $34,000.00 for the American Cancer Society

"Those that have been touched by cancer know first hand about its effects and are very passionate and generous when it comes to fighting back and looking for ways to help," said Coach Darren Bennett, one of the co-founders of the event. "We've been able to attract an energized and enthusiastic group of people who have contributed to the positive momentum of the event, and we had a sensational day."

Patrick Swan, the other driving force behind the outing added, "One motivation behind organizing the tournament is to honor the lives of loved ones who have battled this ruthless disease. The organizing committee has dedicated a section of the program to the valiant efforts of those currently afflicted and to remember fondly those that have been taken from us."

The entire organizing committee encouraged other supporters beyond the competing golfers to join them at Saratoga National for the post-competition cocktail reception. The event offered raffles, contests, and silent and live auctions, as well as donation drop boxes, to raise additional funds. Auction items included sports memorabilia, event tickets, dining and lodging experiences, merchandise, and gear.

The group, launched the event three years ago.  They conceptualized the tournament and put together a team of local business and community leaders to help make it successful and memorable. The tournament has quickly become one of The Northeast's primary events for raising money and awareness for the fight against cancer.  The support from the coaching and sports community has been amazing right from the event's inception.  Notable regional coaches have pitched in to help support the outing, and have committed to do what they can to help make the event grow in in stature and impact.  The committee would like to thank their friends in the coaching community for their past participation, and to challenge them to bring in more coaching friends as participants and sponsorship support going forward.
