Catie Hoch continues to help other children
Updated: Jan 21
Over 21 years ago, as her terminal cancer continued to advance, Catie Hoch asked her parents for one wish. She had observed the hardships and stresses that a cancer diagnosis cause for unsuspecting families. With grace, empathy and vision beyond her years, she made a pact with her mom and dad. Her challenge was simple: find a way to give "kids a break from cancer."
Catie passed away from cancer at the age of 9. For the past 21 years we have been keeping that promise to help children, and their families, while they are in treatment for cancer.
Her kindness and empathy have inspired a whole community and the response has been tremendously impactful. Catie continues to...
Provide emergency financial assistance to families of children with cancer
Pay for housing at the Ronald McDonald House across the country
Treat kids to lunch and a movie
Provide gas and food cards
"Adopt" families of children with cancer during the holidays
Treat kids to a day off from the hospital
Purchase medical equipment to help find a cure
Create the Rainforest Bedroom at Albany's Ronald McDonald House
Donate money to support research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and for patient assistance at Albany Medical Center Hospital
Our golf tournament, Teeing Off on Cancer is on September 11th and this year we are offering people who don't golf the chance to buy raffle tickets for some great prizes. Amazing Major League Baseball Ticket packages, a 2 night stay at the Golden Arrow Resort in Lake Place with a $75 gift card to Smoke Signals, a gorgeous ladybug (Catie-bug) quilt, a one of a kind painting, a Saratoga Racetrack print, and more gifts added every day.
In the upcoming weeks, a new family will be devastated as they check into the Albany Medical Center to start their child's fight against this dreaded disease. Almost immediately they will be greeted by a kind face, told "this money is from Catie, she knows you are going to need it." They will be supported through their entire nightmare.
